This value should take into account the guiding imaging scale PHD and PHD2 will accept same dither size levels from various imaging programs. One thing with the plate solving that wasn't mentioned in smr's video is to select the scope focal length, as well as the camera sensor & pixel size, when download the catalogues. You almost certainly want the first to be bigger than the second - maybe 10 and 2 rather than 1 and 2. The Random Dither in PHD2 varies the size and direction of dithers, so many of the dithers will be less than 12 pixels. I still seem to be getting a noise pattern. Mine has a tendency to overshoot after dither corrections, I have now disabled the 'fast recenter after dither', which has improved things. The 'dither' amount field at the left controls the amount the mount will be moved, in units of pixels. At this time, what I am thinking is to just relax all standards for guiding on PHD2 and just let it function as a dithering trigger. You might end up needing it, but get your mount working well first, then add I guess, dithering on one axis is better than no dither. 1 and later, the initial pulses after a dither move the mount the precise amount to restore the guide star back to the lock position after the dither, regardless of the Max Dec or NINA and PHD2 - posted in Beginning Deep Sky Imaging: Is it possible to use main camera for both, NINA imaging and PHD2?
