The first known Savannah was born on April 7, 1986, in Pennsylvania, USA, when a female Siamese (domestic cat) gave birth to a kitten sired by an African Serval. It became possible thanks to Bengal breeder, Judee Frank. The breed is named after the first unusual female kitten, Savannah. The objective of the breeders is to create a big elegant cat with lush spotted coat. Savannahs have loving and outgoing personalities. They are highly intelligent cats and learn quickly. In 1996, the original version of the Savannah breed standard was presented to the board of The International Cat Association (TICA). But only in 2001, the board accepted the breed for registration. Later, in 2012, the Savannah was accepted for Championship status by TICA.

This amazing breed is known for a variety of admirable traits distinguishing it from other exotic cats and ranking it together with the most expensive and desired elite cat breeds.
